Ex Pats in Spain, Portugal and Cyprus

Approximately 4.5 million British people live abroad, and according to EU estimates, around 1.3 million of these live in Europe. Many UK expats are taking advantage of the warmer weather, slower paced lifestyle and the diverse culinary and cultural experiences in Southern Spain, Portugal and Cyprus.

British people who have relocated to these countries, have in the past, taken advantage of English speaking television like Sky, BBC and ITV.

On the 6th February 2014 new Astra Satellites, launched the previous year, to replace the previous decommissioned satellites. These new satellites ensured that many customers in the countries above were left without Freesat channels such as BBC, ITV, Ch 4 and 5. Some Freesat HD channels are still available through Sky with the Family package. These include 5 HD, ITV 2 HD, ITV 3 HD, ITV 4 HD, Film 4 HD, More 4 HD and e4 HD.

The satellites that became active in 2014 are likely to be the last TV satellites to transmit UK channels as Internet TV becomes more popular. This is why Sky have tested / developed their online streaming system Now TV.

Now TV allows the customer to view, without a contract, Sky , BBC, ITV, On demand movies, box sets and loads of catch up on a pay as you go basis. You can view with one account on up to 4 devices. This service is now available anywhere in the World with a VPN router.
